A (suggested) Movie Review

So I posted a link to my blog on Google+, and got a recommendation to do some movie or TV show reviews. I watch movies more than I do, TV, so, here is a review of the movie The Shining. (No spoilers.)

"Avalon, you've seen The Shining? You're thirteen for God's sakes!"

So? It was good.

No, that's not my review. LOL, I may not be perfect but I write better reviews than THAT!

So I thought The Shining was, although SCARY AS HELL, an amazing movie with a great, creepy plot! Jack Nicholson was incredible, he really brought the character (that came from the macabre mind of Stephen King, btw) to life. Director Stanley Kubrick's use of foreshadowing and camera movement added a dark, almost Hichcockian touch to the film (as if it wasn't scary enough, right). Compared to the gory films of today, it may seem almost comical....but not so much three hours later, when you're scared out of your mind.

I congratulate The Shining for staying alive all these years, and staying fresh in people's minds even after movies like Halloween and Saw.

Rebel Without a Cause -- Plato Is Gay!

**MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!**

As some of you may know (if you have watched "Rebel Without a Cause" LIKE I ASKED YOU VERY NICELY TO), John "Plato" Crawford is a character in "Rebel Without a Cause." And my favorite character. I don't know, I just really like him.

So I was browsing the web and found A-THIS:

Well, I'd never thought about Plato being gay. But then I thought about it. The adoring looks at Jim? That whole Planetarium sequence (THE FIRST ONE)??

HOW THE HELL DID I MISS THAT?

It's kind of obvious now that I think back. And I am now looking at my favorite movie in a whole new way. And I think I know now why they killed Plato. You gotta stay under Hays Code, right? :(

It's almost unheard of for that time. But look at the image above you. Plato is now the #2 best gay movie character. Of all time.

You go, Plato.

I like the character of Plato about 100 times more now.

Well, I just thought I'd post this because I thought it was interesting.

Miss American Pie

Wow, I have not posted in forever! Time to catch you guys up on my biz!

So I am completely obsessed with this song, "American Pie." As you may or may not know, I'm an oldies girl. I L-O-V-E anything classic and well, old. For example American Pie. The inner 60's fangirl in me screamed when I saw these lyrics:

When the jester sang for the king and queen

In a coat he borrowed from James Dean

I was like. AHHH!!! JAMES DEAN!! Because I am a HUGE James Dean fan. Like seriously. HUGE. And, along those lines, a huge RWAC (Rebel without a cause) fan!!

I have only seen the movie once.

AND THAT WAS ENOUGH! I fell completely IN LOVE. WITH THE MOVIE.

It's just so....and...yeah. JUST WATCH IT.

You can tell I'm REALLY hyped up about it! Well I have good reason.

IT'S FREAKING AMAZING!!

"Psycho" and Scarlett

MAJOR PSYCHO SPOILERS AHEAD!!

So today I was out to lunch with 2/3 of my BFFs, Scarlett and Ella. (Isabella couldn't make it.) We were talking and somehow (I really can't remember) the subject of Psycho came up.

Well. Naturally I jumped right in, raving about the shocking end, and somehow Ella and I ended up explaining the whole thing to Scarlett, who hasn't seen the movie.

She didn't understand. "So...Mother's alive?"

"No, see, Norman is Mother. He dressed up like her and preserved her body after she died," I'd said.

"That sounds stupid," Scarlett scoffed.

EXCUSE ME?!?!?!?! "You have to see it in context," Ella said, coming to my rescue (as I was speechless).

Thank you, YouTube! Some awesome person had posted the fruit cellar scene. So I showed it to Scarlett, whose only comments were the following:

"That's stupid."

"Why does the skeleton have wrinkles?"

"That's so stupid it's almost funny."

"Av, is it one of those movies where it's so. Bad. It's funny?"

I couldn't believe she hated it! And I couldn't believe her only non-hater comment was Why does the skeleton have wrinkles? I mean REALLY.

I said, "What. Scarlett. No. It got nominated for like six Oscars."

She laughed. "Sure, Avalon!"

Sigh. Some people just don't get it.

Annie is so weird....

....I mean, seriously. I tried to act like I cared about her crush on this guy, Kevin, who used to go to my school but now he goes to Wagner, like Annie. But honestly? I don't mean to sound mean, but it's getting kind of old. Every time I see her it's Kevin this and Kevin that.

What's more, her idea of fun is going through her camera roll and making everything sepia. I was like, yay, let's make this selfie sepia (she does the worst duck face) and lets make this random picture of your couch sepia, and this weird Minecraft screenshot sepia....

And whenever we come across a video, Annie simply has to watch the WHOLE THING, no matter how long it is.

We watched this one where she's maybe nine years old, talking to her cat. No, talking for her cat. Seriously. She was all, "Hello! My name is Sky--" (that's her cat's name) "--and this is the premier of my talk show, and today we're here with Doggy the Doggy-Dog..." Here Annie switches into this deep deep voice and holds a Littlest Pet Shop up to the iPad lens. "Hullo! My name is Doggy the Doggy-Dog, but yoo can cawl me Dee-Dawg!"

I stopped listening when Annie/Sky started singing what sounded like Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On.

After, I asked Annie why she made that video. Her eyes got as wide as saucers and she said, dead serious, "I don't know what you mean, Av. I didn't make the video, Sky did." And she went on to explain how Sky supposedly hired her to man the camera while she (Sky) "worked her on-screen feline magic."

She's addicted to that cat, I tell you. The cat and Kevin.

So Ella heard about my blog and decided to make her own. I'm so forgetful, I forgot her blog URL. I'll try to get it tomorrow (or, I guess, later today, seeing as it's 12:28 AM) and put it in the next post.

Good morning…yawn…

Up half the night Google-plus-ing. I'm seeing my weird friend, Annie, today. She still acts like she's six, but it's kind of cute. I'll write more about her after I get back from her place.

I hope I get some views on this blog soon.

Anyway…

More info on Annie, my day, and Ella (long story) later!

I'm Totally Addicted...

....to this show on A&E, Bates Motel. It's like a prequel to Psycho. It sounds horrible (I mean, Norman's eighteen), but it's, like, NOT. It's actually REALLY GOOD.

You can catch up on more of my creepy addiction by checking out my Google+ profile! Just click on the link below:

I know you don't want to sit here reading about Bates Motel when you can just WATCH IT, so I'm out. More later!

My Favorite Director

I'm bored, so I thought to myself: "Hey, why not write a blog post?" (YOLO, right?) I'd like to use this blog post to write about my favorite movie director EVER, Alfred Hitchcock.  (Call me a nerd, WTF, I don't care.)

Alfred Hitchcock is SO AWESOME. I don't know exactly what it is that I love about his movies, but I just can't get enough of them!!

My favorite Alfred Hitchcock movie by far is Psycho. I love the twist ending, and Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh are AMAZING. (SPOILERS AHEAD!!) I just love Vera Miles when she screams at the end, and I love that one shot where the camera is pointing directly at the shower-head, you know that shot (if you've seen the movie, which you totally should)?

Me and Ella are both SUCH huge Hitchcock buffs.

I just wanted to tell you all that because, you know, it's a big part of...me.

It's getting late. More tomorrow!

"The Mighty" and Me

Today in humanities we watched a movie. It was called "The Mighty", based on the book by Rodman Philbrick. Maybe you've read it. We watched it because we read the book in class.
I thought it was horrible. The director or whoever left out a lot of stuff. And the music was awful.

My best friend Ella says the movie "was pretty good. I thought it was pretty sad. I was sobbing."  My other best friend Sarah refused to be interviewed.

Something weird happened. During the part in the movie where Kevin is trying to find out where Max is, he's doing all this detective stuff. I don't think he meant for me to hear this, but a person who I will keep anonymous said, "Kevin's pretty smart. You know, for a cripple kid."

I was like, What's that supposed to mean? What does his physical disorder have to do with how smart he is?

I was very upset with this person. I even went so far as to glare at him. My own small act of rebellion.

I have to go--more later!

Today was weird

Today was weird.

Aaand I just realized you have no idea who I am. Don't worry, I'm not some crazy stalker. My name is Avalon Miller. I go to XXXX school and am XX years old.

Ha. You actually thought I was going to tell you all that?

I don't even know you.

You could be some crazy stalker.

Well, anyway. First of all, welcome to my blog! Enjoy reading all about my personal life.

ONWARDS!

Like I said, today was so weird. I took a science exam (ugh) and forgot to bring my coat. Since I live in New York City, it's freezing in early March.

Back to my science exam. So we have these folder things that prevent other people from seeing our papers, right? And it's a known fact that EVERYONE writes on these folders. Just stuff like "Good luck" and "I know you'll do great". (I once got one that had a phone number on it and read, "Call me!" Weird stuff. Some people are so desperate.)

Some people draw stuff on these giant folder things. Smiley faces and whatever.

This one guy, Blake, who sits at my table had a swastika on his.

He told our science teacher right away and she confiscated the giant poster thing.

Turns out it wasn't a swastika, and if it was meant to be one, it was a very poorly drawn swastika. Not that I'm, like, a swastika expert. That would be weird.

That experience was so scary. I know what you're thinking--Avalon, calm down. It's just a harmless doodle. And you may be right. It might be someone's idea of funny. (That's really scary.) But it still scares me knowing someone in my school would support....that.

Of course, this may not be the case at all. Like I said, it could just be someone's completely innocent doodle. But... you know.

ONWARDS!

I have a group of really close friends -- Ana Lei, Ella, and Scarlett. They're all SO COOL and SO NICE.

I also have this one friend.

Hannah.

Hannah's different. Hannah...I am not going to tell you Hannah's story right now.

You'll just have to keep reading to find out!!
